Deputy Manager – REF SMM1

Location: South East London
Salary: Up to £60,000 per year
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Reports to: Registered Manager

About the Role :

We are seeking an experienced Deputy Manager to support the Registered Manager in the leadership and day-to-day running of a children’s residential home in South East London.

You will play a key role in ensuring high-quality care, safeguarding children and young people, supporting staff development, and maintaining strong standards in line with Ofsted requirements and the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015.

Key Responsibilities :

• Support the Registered Manager with the effective operation of the home.
• Lead and motivate the care team, promoting a positive and supportive culture.
• Ensure children and young people receive safe, nurturing, and high-quality care.
• Support safeguarding practices and ensure policies and procedures are followed.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop staff members.
• Assist with staff recruitment, training, and performance management.
• Maintain high standards of records, care planning, and compliance.
• Build positive relationships with Ofsted, families, social care professionals, and partner agencies.
• Deputise for the Registered Manager when required.

Essential Requirements :

• Previous experience in a senior care worker or management role within a children’s residential setting.
• Experience supporting children with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) is preferred.
• Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
• Strong understanding of safeguarding and children’s care regulations.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to support and inspire a team.
• Full UK driving licence.

Desirable :

• Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards).
• Minimum 2 years’ experience working with children and young people in residential care.
